Bravery vs Courage

How trying to become a team can backfire

In my conversations with leaders this year, the word “bravery’ kept appearing. I have been exploring what bravery means for leadership teams, and I was lucky enough to host a session on bravery with a group of leaders last week.

One particular idea we explored seemed to resonate with the group. It’s about the difference between bravery and courage.

And how you need BOTH in successful teams.

I’ve made a 2-minute video about this to share with you. Is your team brave, or courageous, or both?

Let me know what you think – send me an email with your thoughts or add a comment under the video.

Here are the 4 developmental stages of a team, building on the work of Katzenbach and Hawkins and others. Where are you and your team on this journey?

How we’re helping people right now

Where you get together to co-ordinate activity and share information. Focus is on day-to-day deliverables. Group members attend to represent their area of the business.

We launched a leadership development program for a fast-growing NDIS provider, which you can see here.

And we ran a fabulous session for 100 emerging leaders which I posted about here.

And my colleague Michelle Pitt has been much in-demand for her presentation skills sessions, which get amazing feedback like this. It’s not unusual for most people to rate their session with Michelle 10/10.

Michelle also worked with a nonprofit to help their team turn their values into daily behaviours, and we’ve seen them getting lots of traction.

Plus, we’re busy running 360 leadership reviews, accompanied by 1-1 coaching sessions for a group of talented leaders at a university.
